   Bachelor of Elementary Education 4_3

3. Pros/Cons
Pros
·    There is no time spent commuting to classes.
·    There are no travel costs.
·    You set your own hours.
·    You do not have to keep up with the pace of the group. This works for those who seem to always be behind or ahead of the group.
·    There is less classroom competition
·    More flexible deadlines
·    Up to date material via Interne
Cons
·    If you are the type of student that performs better with the aid of visual or verbal cues you may be at a disadvantage.
·    You have to be a little more patient when getting your questions answered. You are not in a traditional setting so you have to correspond by e-mail when you want to speak to your instructor.
·    Lack of face to face interaction with other students will reduce learning and study opportunities with your peers.
·    More potential for miscommunication due to misinterpreted written instructions
4. Since we are globally competitive, the reading materials are related with the system of education here in our country. I’ve learned a lot in terms of career planning, traditional and distance learning, and many more.  But I would suggest that this subject course should be taken before taking the student teaching program.

#1 Career Planning

TITLE: #1 Career

1. Career planning is a rewarding and positive experience. It can have multiple benefits, from goal-setting to career change, to a more successful life. Write the essential steps and their corresponding explanations towards a successful career planning.
The career planning process is comprised of four steps:
v  SELF - It talks about the personal data of you. It indicates the values you inculcated with your parents, your roles as good individual, and of course your skills that you proud of. In short you are going to assess yourself to that matter needed.
Begin by thinking about where you are now, where you want to be and how you’re going to get there.
Once you have thought about where you are at now and where you want to be, you can work on getting to know your skills, interests and values.
Begin by asking yourself the following questions:
  • Where am I at now?
  • Where do I want to be?
  • What do I want out of a job or career?
  • What do I like to do?
  • What are my strengths?
  • What is important to me?
At the end of this step you will have a clearer idea of your work or learning goal and your individual preferences. You can use this information about yourself as your personal ‘wish list’ against which you can compare all the information you gather in Step 2: finding out.  Your personal preferences are very useful for helping you choose your best option at this point in time, which you can do in Step 3: making decisions.

v  OPTIONS – Define as an act of choosing. Meaning you have choices for the skills you are fit to. Meaning to say that, you are choosing the best thing that is specific to your interest or want to.
This step is about exploring the occupations and learning areas that interest you. Once you have some idea of your occupational preferences you can research the specific skills and qualifications required for those occupations.
  • Explore occupations that interest you and ask yourself how do my skills and interests match up with these occupations?
  • Where are the gaps?
  • What options do I have to gain these skills or qualify for these occupations?
  • What skills do I need?
  • Where is the work?
At the end of this step you will have a list of preferred occupations and/or learning options.

v  MATCH – After doing so the above steps, you are now matching which occupation really fit to your skills, attitudes, interest and values that you have. So that, you will have a good occupation waiting for you.
This step involves comparing your options, narrowing down your choices and thinking about what suits you best at this point in time.
Ask yourself:
  • What are my best work/training options?
  • How do they match with my skills, interests and values?
  • How do they fit with the current labor market?
  • How do they fit with my current situation and responsibilities?
  • What are the advantages and disadvantages of each option?
  • What will help and what will hinder me?
  • What can I do about it?

v  ACTION – After you reach the above steps, you have to do action so that you are already legible to the work you are wanted to pursue. You have to attend seminars for your improvement, you have also to make your own resume as honesty as you can, you will undergo interviews and of course different trainings fit to your occupation.
Here you plan the steps you need to take to put your plan into action.
Use all you have learnt about your skills, interests and values together with the information you have gathered about the world of work to create your plan.
Begin by asking yourself:
  • What actions/steps will help me achieve my work, training and career goals?
  • Where can I get help?
  • Who will support me?

At the end of this step you will have:
  • a plan to help you explore your options further (eg work experience, work shadowing or more research); or
  • a plan which sets out the steps to help you achieve your next learning or work goal.
Decide which step is relevant for you right now and start from there.

2. Since teaching is a lifetime profession and vocation, why is career planning a significant endeavor?

In today's rapidly changing world, new career paths are constantly unfolding, traditional ones are being changed and shifts are taking place in occupation skills and educational requirements.  These changes are a result of new technology, changes in organizational design and the trend towards global business operations.  With all these changes, you might ask "What is the point of planning ahead by developing a career plan?"  The point is to develop a set of career goals, strategy and options based on your interests, personality, values and skills.  Once you have a plan, you will be equipped to self-manage your career and take advantage of changes in the economy and job market rather than becoming a victim of change.  Your career is totally your responsibility.  It is up to you to do the planning and take the necessary actions to obtain the education and training that will support your career plans.  However, you can get help.  Keep in mind, throughout your life, you are the one who must make all the decisions about your career and you must produce the results that support your goals.  It’s up to you to control and
"A goal that you desire to achieve in a selected field or occupation with a well-thought out plan, to get you there is called Career Planning."
The world is now moving very fast, and the time has come when this meritocratic society accepts only those, having right qualification and right skills.                                  Olden days are gone, when just a degree would help an individual to get high profile job by giving bribe or using some other mean. Now it's high time, when the transparency in job recruitment has taken place.                                                                             Challenges and competition are the part of today's society, and therefore, Career Planning is the only task, which can guide us to do what we want to do in our life, rather than just aimlessly changing job all the time in future.                                                              Career Planning is one of the broader aspects of learning in our existence. We all have some intentions and we all think to have stability in our future lives, and for that purpose, CAREER PLANNING serves as a key to success.                                                             Career Planning makes a person to think suitably about their positive and negative aspects. All about their interest, about their creativity becomes possible through proper analyzing ourselves.                                                                                                     In short, Career Planning is like mapping our future. Without proper planning, no one could think of getting a desired job in future.                                                           Career planning directs us, motivates us, and helps us to accomplish what we want. A career goal is a specific vision such as an architect or a teacher or a career goal can be a particular field, which we want to work in, such as Media, Education, Medicine, Engineering etc.   Career planning is a life time process we are always learning and growing, and as we do, our interests and needs also change. Career planning is not just making plans to obtain our career, but it also help us to make many adjustments there will be along the ways we learn throughout our lives. Very few of us actually plan our careers. Usually, more thought is given to a summer holiday or social activities. This is bizarre as you will spend around two-thirds of your adult (waking) life at work - your career goes a long way to determining your quality of life.

3. Interview an artist teacher using the following profession:

3.2 How did you prepare for your teaching career?

#5 Global Classroom

TITLE: #5 GC
1. A globally citizen exhibits the characteristics listed below. Explain clearly as you can what each characteristic mean to you.
*      Has appreciation for people from other cultures
We have different cultures that inculcated to us by our ancestors and of course our beloved parents. Safe to say that, we have to respect the cultures that we have right now; we should be proud of the cultures that we are valuing in our life or simply appreciate one’s cultures.

*      Is sensitive to the needs of people different from themselves
For me it is our right to be sensitive enough in terms with the needs of mine and with others. We are unique individual, so I do believe that we have to consider the choose we are dealing with.

*      Has increasing knowledge about people around the world
It is our responsibility to know the people around us. Make it sure that you are the kind of highly individual, meaning you have to acquire knowledge in terms of dealing with other people in the world. You have to make yourself most out of it. Because I believe that, we have to learn things around us so that we can gain uniqueness to everyone.

*      Has critical cognitive skills and attitudes such as empathy, interconnectedness, perspective taking, cross-cultural understanding, action orientation, and prejudice reduction.

If you do so the cited skills and attitudes, I think you have the kind of people who has critical cognitive skills and attitudes. You have to show sympathy with others as much as you can, you have to connects so that you are developing socialization, you have to stand your point of view so that you build up self confidence, as stated awhile ago you have to respect one’s cultures, let us watch our action, make it sure that this action should be in good one and especially you have to respect each individual.

2. As an educator, you can make a difference in teaching and learning locally and globally when you address the needs of the nation you serve and transit the proper attitudes and beliefs you think to be necessary to maintain the society of which you are a part through your learners in a global classroom. Discuss how you can make your classroom a global community.

Characteristics of a Global Classroom
How can you make your classroom a global community?
Global perspective is integrated throughout the school curriculum not just in social studies
I made sure that my soon to be pupils will have the broad knowledge of all the subjects concerns. I will do my level best to reach all the subjects I am pertaining to.
International focus courses are developed in areas such as anthropology, regional history, geography, global or world studies, foreign language study, world religions, ethnic group studies, international business, music, and art.
These areas will help our pupils a more global competitive one. Because it rekindle the adoration of my soon to be pupils so that they will have a wide-ranging background out of it.
Internationalizing instructional methods and materials emphasize intercultural interaction and culturally appropriate methods of instruction and assessment. Partnership programs with other schools and countries can also be developed.
We should be sensitive enough to our methods we used. So that we emphasize the outcome we are wishing for. We should also consider the help of others for the betterment of our job. Let us consider each and everyone; if we do so, we have a good instruction and assessment.
Encouraging international travel as an important part of one’s education.
Our education that we have right now, we should always consider the things around us. So that we value the important of one’s education.

# 4 Multicultural Education

TITLE: #4: ME

1. Design a lesson for an education class with the theme “Unity in Cultural Diversity”. Take careful consideration of the parts of the lesson presented in this topic.

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
            1. define unity in cultural diversity
          2. name the dimensions of unity in diversity
          3. explain the importance of the three dimension; and
          4. know how to accept individual differences

Value: ACCEPTANCE

MATERIALS AND RESOURCES
flashcards, video clip and activity cards

ANTICIPATORY SET OR ENTRY
The pupils will watch a video clip about the importance of unity in cultural diversity.

INSTRUCTIONAL INPUT
The teacher will give the meaning of UNITY IN CULTURAL DIVERSITY.
The teacher will introduce the three dimensions of UNITY IN DIVERSITY.
The teacher will explain the importance of the UNITY IN DIVERSITY.
The teacher will infuse the value of acceptance.

GUIDED PRACTICES
When we say Unity in Cultural in Diversity, it says that, is the highest possible attainment of a civilization, a testimony to the noblest possibilities of the human race. Meaning, this attainment is made possible through passionate concern for choice, is an atmosphere of social trust.

The three dimensions of Unity in Diversity are Culture, Spirituality, and Science.
Culture talks about how we explore different cultures, express, communicate, elaborate and speak in a variety of ways while sharing the same feelings of love, joy and beauty. It implies that, we all express ourselves through the language of feelings and emotions including music and art.
Spirituality, this dimension we explore concepts of our subtle existence and perceptions of causes and purposes.
Science, through this dimension, we encourage scientific thinking and exploration. If we are to understand the cosmos and all its components, it is imperative that we seek to understand the formula’s which are governing the universe and ultimately our reality. Safe to say that, it is important to respect the views and arguments of all in this field, and to support sincere contemplation in seeking reality.

INDEPENDENT PRACTICE
I will group tem into four with five members each. I call this activity a “Creative Workshops” wherein the pupils will make a poster that are centered on our message and values.

ASSESSMENT/EVALUATION
In their own point of view, give the importance of cultural unity in diversity; it focuses on the given three dimensions of Unity in Diversity.

2.  Together with your group mates in practicum, conduct a survey of one class either in CLSU or the school where you are having your practicum. Find out the diversity of learners represented by each student. Consider ethnicity, languages spoken, parental origin, culture (parenting), traits or giftedness the family is known for (music, business, coming from family of teachers…) and other related areas. Post the results including the school’s name and section of the class and the researchers’ names.
